This is a replica USS New Orleans Apollo 13 recovery ship patch. While this is a real US Navy patch, it is not a real recovery force patch. USS Iwo Jima was the primary recovery ship for the Apollo 13 mission. However, USS New Orleans doubled for the Iwo Jima during the production of the 1995 Ron Howard film Apollo 13. This patch was made for the USS New Orleans to commemorate the ship's role in the film. To the best of our knowledge this patch has never been reproduced before. This fully embroidered patch measures approximately 4.5" across. Whether you are a collector of space program or US Navy patches, this patch will be an outstanding addition to your collection.
